WestJet and Petro-Canada Are Teaming Up: Here’s What It Means for Your Points

If you fill up at Petro-Canada regularly and fly WestJet even occasionally, this news is worth paying attention to.

WestJet and Petro-Canada have officially announced a new loyalty program partnership that links WestJet Rewards and Petro-Points together. The two programs are connecting in a way that lets you earn, convert, and redeem rewards across both, whether you are on the road or heading to the airport.

It is a genuinely interesting pairing and the perks are more flexible than your typical co-branded add-on.

While all the details haven’t been revealed yet, let’s dive into what we know.

What the Partnership Actually Gets You

Source: WestJet

Once you link your WestJet Rewards and Petro-Points accounts, here is what becomes available to you:

Earn your preferred currency at the pump. You will be able to choose whether you want to rack up Petro-Points or WestJet Rewards dollars on fuel, car wash, and convenience store purchases at Petro-Canada.

20% more Petro-Points on every purchase. Linked members earn a 20 per cent boost on Petro-Points across all eligible purchases at Petro-Canada locations. That adds up faster than you might expect if you are already a regular customer.

Redeem WestJet points at Petro-Canada. This is the part that stands out most. You will be able to put your WestJet points toward eligible purchases at Petro-Canada, including fuel, car washes, and convenience store items. Using airline points to pay for a fill-up is a nice bit of flexibility, especially if you have points you are not actively saving toward a flight.

Convert Petro-Points into WestJet points. The partnership launches with the ability to move Petro-Points over to your WestJet Rewards account. So every time you fuel up, you are not just saving on gas costs, you are also building toward your next trip.

Exclusive promotions and contests. Linked members will get access to special offers and contests, including chances to win WestJet vacation packages and flights. These kinds of sweepstakes promos can be genuinely valuable if you stay engaged with them.

Good News for Petro-Canada Platinum Members

If you are already a Petro-Canada Platinum Status member, your existing perks are not going anywhere.

Platinum members continue to earn 50 per cent more Petro-Points when they fuel up with at least 1,000 litres per quarter through what Petro-Canada calls Canada’s first frequent fueller program. Stack that on top of the 20 per cent bonus for linked accounts, and the earning potential starts to get interesting for high-volume drivers.

Platinum members also receive additional benefits and exclusive offers through Petro-Canada’s growing partner network.

Two Proudly Canadian Brands, One Ecosystem

There is something fitting about this particular partnership. Both WestJet and Petro-Canada are brands that have grown alongside Canadians for decades, and this feels like a natural extension of that shared identity.

With more than 1,500 Petro-Canada locations across the country and WestJet serving destinations coast to coast and beyond, the reach here is real. This is not a niche loyalty perk buried in a credit card’s fine print. It is a direct connection between two things millions of Canadians already do every week.

When Does This Launch?

The full details of the partnership have not all been released yet. WestJet and Petro-Canada have confirmed that more information will be shared closer to the launch date, which is expected in early 2027.

That gives you a bit of time to make sure your accounts are set up and ready to link when the program goes live.

The Bottom Line

This is one of those loyalty partnerships that make sense in real life. Fuelling up is something most Canadians do regularly, and now there is a clear path to turning those fill-ups into flights.

The 20 per cent Petro-Points boost for linked members, the ability to redeem WestJet points at the pump, and the flexibility to convert currencies in both directions make this worth watching.

Keep an eye out for the official launch details in the lead-up to early 2027, and make sure your accounts are ready to go when it opens up.
