WestJet and Triangle Rewards launch new loyalty partnership

If you’re the kind of traveller who loves squeezing extra value out of everyday spending, this is a partnership worth paying attention to.

WestJet Rewards and Triangle Rewards have officially joined forces, giving Canadians a new way to double dip on purchases by earning both WestJet points and Canadian Tire Money on eligible spending once accounts are linked.

In simple terms: you can now earn travel rewards while shopping for regular life stuff, and earn retail rewards while booking flights.

For Canadians who already shop at places like Canadian Tire, SportChek, or Mark’s, this could become a surprisingly useful little rewards stack.

What is the WestJet x Triangle Rewards partnership?

The new partnership allows members to link their WestJet Rewards and Triangle Rewards accounts so they can earn across both ecosystems at the same time.

That means if you’re shopping at participating Canadian Tire Corporation stores or booking with WestJet, your spending can now work a little harder for you.

It’s a partnership that actually makes sense for many Canadians. You’ve got one side focused on flights and vacations, and the other tied to the kinds of stores many people already use for everything from car gear to sports equipment to workwear.

What can you earn?

There are a few key ways this works.

1) Earn WestJet points when shopping at participating stores

Once your accounts are linked, you can earn 1 WestJet point for every $2 spent on eligible purchases at participating stores. Note that you still earn Canadian Tire Money via Triangle Awards while earning WestJet points as the same time.

That includes stores such as:

  • Canadian Tire
  • SportChek
  • Mark’s
  • Party City
  • Atmosphere
  • Pro Hockey Life
  • Hockey Experts
  • Sports Rousseau
  • L’Entrepôt du Hockey
  • Participating Sports Experts locations

So if you’re buying camping gear, workout clothes, hockey equipment, or even random household essentials, you’re now potentially adding to your next flight fund.

2) Earn Canadian Tire Money when booking WestJet

This is the flip side, and honestly one of the more interesting parts.

Linked members can collect 0.4% Canadian Tire Money on eligible WestJet purchases, including things like:

  • flights
  • seat upgrades
  • checked bags
  • vacation packages

Note that this increases to 1% Canadian Tire Money if you pay with a Triangle Credit Card, like the Triangle World Elite Mastercard!

It is not a massive earn rate on its own, but if you already fly WestJet and already shop within the Triangle ecosystem, it’s a nice bonus for doing what you were probably going to do anyway.

3) You can convert WestJet points into Canadian Tire Money

This adds a little extra flexibility.

WestJet has confirmed that linked members can also convert WestJet points into Canadian Tire Money for retail purchases at a rate of 120 WestJet points to $1 in Canadian Tire Money.

That could be useful if you have a small orphan balance of WestJet points you are not likely to use for a trip anytime soon, or if you’d rather turn travel rewards into practical spending.

That said, I’d still argue that WestJet points are generally more valuable when used toward travel. In most cases, 100 WestJet points equals $1 CAD off eligible bookings, meaning each point is typically worth about 1 cent. By comparison, converting 120 points into $1 in Canadian Tire Money gives you slightly less value per point, though the added flexibility to convert between programs is still a nice option.

Can you earn even more with the right credit card?

Yes, and this is where the partnership gets more useful.

If your accounts are linked, both cards can help you earn more, but they do it in different ways.

If you pay with a Triangle Credit Card

If you pay with a Triangle Credit Card, like the Triangle World Elite Mastercard, that total increases to 1% in Canadian Tire Money on eligible WestJet purchases related to your own travel. This includes the 0.4% from linking your accounts plus an additional 0.6% through the card.

If you pay with a WestJet RBC World Elite Mastercard

When you shop at participating Triangle Rewards retailers like Canadian Tire, SportChek, or Mark’s, linked members earn their regular Canadian Tire Money plus 1 WestJet point per $2 spent through the partnership.

How to link your accounts

The process is pretty simple.

To link your accounts:

  1. Sign in to your WestJet Rewards account
  2. Go to your profile
  3. Find the Offers tab on desktop or More Rewards in the app
  4. Select the Triangle Rewards section
  5. Tap Link Now
  6. Sign in to your Triangle Rewards account and complete the steps

Once linked, eligible rewards should apply automatically when you shop or fly.

Is this partnership actually worth it?

For most Canadians, I’d say yes, if you already use either brand regularly.

This is not the kind of partnership I’d tell someone to completely change their habits for.

But if you already:

  • fly WestJet a few times a year
  • shop at Canadian Tire, SportChek, or Mark’s
  • use a Triangle or WestJet credit card
  • like getting extra value from normal spending

Then it’s pretty much a no-brainer to link your accounts.

Even if the earn rates are not life-changing on each individual purchase, the whole point of loyalty is that small wins compound over time.

A few points from sports gear. A few rewards from a flight. A few extra dollars back on baggage or seat selection.

It can all add up quickly.

One fun little extra: FRANK snacks are now onboard

Also, in one of the more random but very Canadian additions to this announcement, FRANK snacks sold at Canadian Tire are now being served complimentary on WestJet flights to celebrate the partnership.

This will be fun to see (and eat!) onboard.

Final thoughts

The new WestJet Rewards x Triangle Rewards partnership is a smart move for Canadians who want more value out of both travel and everyday shopping.

It won’t suddenly fund your next Europe trip overnight, but it does make it easier to earn along the way, especially if you’re already spending in both ecosystems.

And that’s really the sweet spot for a good loyalty partnership: easy to use, easy to understand, and useful in real life.

If you’re a WestJet flyer or frequent Canadian Tire family shopper, this one is worth linking.
