Rogers Launches Canada’s First World Legend Mastercard With $495 Annual Fee

Rogers Bank has introduced a new premium credit card in Canada, the Rogers Red World Legend Mastercard. The card marks the first time the World Legend tier from Mastercard has been made available to Canadian consumers.

On paper, the card aims to combine travel perks, entertainment benefits, and connectivity features tied to the Rogers ecosystem. It also carries a very premium price tag with a $495 annual fee and $95 for authorized users.

For travellers and points enthusiasts, the real question is simple. Does this card actually deliver value?

Here is a closer look at what it offers and who it might make sense for.

The Basics

The Rogers Red World Legend Mastercard is positioned as a premium cashback card rather than a points card.

Key features include:

  • 2 percent cash back on eligible purchases worldwide
  • No foreign transaction fees
  • Six Plaza Premium lounge passes per year
  • $200 annual Rogers entertainment credit
  • 10 Roam Like Home days per year for eligible Rogers wireless customers
  • Soho Friends membership perks
  • Mastercard Travel Pass lounge access at discounted rates

To qualify, applicants must meet a minimum income requirement of $150,000 personal or $200,000 household.

Note: This card is currently not available in Quebec.

No Welcome Bonus, Rather a Contest

One interesting aspect of the launch is the lack of a traditional welcome bonus.

Most premium credit cards in Canada introduce a new product with a significant incentive. That might be a large points bonus, elevated cash back for the first few months, or statement credits.

Instead, Rogers is promoting a contest entry for approved applicants. Winners receive a trip to visit the McLaren Technology Centre in England, including flights to London and hotel accommodations.

Experiences like this are certainly unique and exciting, but I’d assume for most travellers a guaranteed welcome bonus would likely be more appealing.

Note: You must submit the online entry form by May 29, 2026 to have the chance to win this contest.

The Travel Benefits

While the card is not structured around airline points or transferable rewards, it still includes several travel-oriented perks.

No Foreign Transaction Fees

This is arguably one of the most valuable features.

Most Canadian credit cards charge about 2.5 percent on foreign currency purchases. Removing that fee can make a noticeable difference for frequent travellers.

Combined with the 2 percent cash back, the effective return on spending abroad becomes fairly competitive for a Canadian cashback card.

Airport Lounge Access

Cardholders receive six annual passes to Plaza Premium lounges worldwide.

Plaza Premium Group operates lounges in many international airports, including several major Canadian gateways.

Six visits per year is respectable, though not unusual among premium Canadian credit cards.

Cardholders also receive a membership to Mastercard Travel Pass, which provides access to more than 1,300 lounges globally at a discounted rate.

Connectivity Perks

One benefit that stands out is the inclusion of 10 Roam Like Home days each year for eligible Rogers wireless customers.

For travellers who regularly roam internationally, this could offset a meaningful portion of the annual fee.

Entertainment and Lifestyle Benefits

Beyond travel, the card leans heavily into entertainment.

Cardholders receive a $200 Rogers entertainment credit that can be used on services such as Sportsnet or Rogers streaming products. There is also access to Rogers event experiences and early ticket opportunities.

Another interesting perk is access to Soho Friends, a hospitality program connected to the global Soho House network. Benefits include preferred rates at Soho House properties and a credit toward hotel stays.

If you already use these services, these perks definitely have a strong appeal.

The Rogers Ecosystem Multiplier

The biggest value appears if you are already a Rogers customer.

Cash back can be redeemed at a 1.5 times multiplier toward Rogers purchases, effectively turning the base earning rate into 3 percent value when applied to Rogers products and services.

For someone with a Rogers wireless plan, streaming subscriptions, or other services, this could add up quickly.

But if you are not already part of the Rogers ecosystem, this enhanced value becomes much harder to capture.

Who This Card Might Be Good For

The Rogers Red World Legend Mastercard seems designed for a fairly specific type of customer.

It may work well for someone who:

  • Is already a Rogers mobile or entertainment customer
  • Travels internationally often and values no foreign transaction fees
  • Can regularly use airport lounge passes
  • Appreciates entertainment and lifestyle perks tied to concerts, sports, and events

For that type of user, stacking roaming benefits, cashback redemptions toward Rogers services, and lounge access could potentially justify the annual fee.

The Bottom Line

The Rogers Red World Legend Mastercard is an interesting new entry into Canada’s premium credit card market.

It introduces a new card tier through Mastercard and focuses more on cash back and lifestyle perks than on traditional travel rewards.

However, the lack of a welcome bonus and the $495 annual fee make the value proposition harder to justify for many travellers.

For those deeply integrated into the Rogers ecosystem and who travel internationally often, the combination of no foreign transaction fees, roaming perks, and cashback redemption bonuses could definitely make the card worthwhile.

For everyone else, especially travellers focused on points and flight rewards, there may still be stronger options elsewhere.

Regardless, it is always interesting to see a new credit card enter the Canadian market, so it will be worth watching how this one performs.
