New Porter Routes Will Take Flight from MET Airport in Montréal!

Some genuinely exciting aviation news is unfolding in Montréal!

For decades, Montréal–Trudeau International Airport has been the city’s primary gateway. But now, a second airport is stepping into the spotlight: Montréal Metropolitan Airport (MET), located just 15 minutes from downtown in Longueuil.

With a brand-new terminal and a focus on speed, comfort, and convenience, MET is ready to offer travellers a modern alternative for domestic flights, and Porter Airlines is leading the charge.

A New Era for Montréal Airports

For years, Montréal has effectively relied on a single major commercial airport. While that works, it also limits competition, route options, and travel experiences. MET is changing that by introducing:

  • Faster airport experiences – shorter check-in and security lines, and with just nine gates, getting to your flight is quick and easy.
  • Central convenience – only a half-hour from Old Montréal and the downtown business district. If you’re taking the metro/bus, you can catch the 428 express RTL bus to the Longueuil/Universite-de-Sherbrooke Metro station and take the Yellow (#4) line to the central Berri-UQAM station where you can easily connect to Montréal’s other Metro lines.
  • Modern comfort – sleek new space designed for a relaxed, passenger-focused experience.

Smaller, boutique-style airports like MET are rare in Canada, and travellers are already seeing the benefits.

The launch of MET with Porter Airlines offers several tangible benefits for Canadians:

  1. More Choice, Better Fares – Increased competition often drives more competitive pricing on domestic routes.
  2. A Premium, Smooth Experience – Smaller airports mean less stress: shorter lines, faster boarding, and more personal service.
  3. Convenient Location – For South Shore residents or anyone near downtown, MET could be quicker and easier to reach than Trudeau.
  4. Expanded Route Opportunities – From coast to coast, MET opens up a new network of direct and connecting flights with Porter’s modern fleet.

A Brief History of MET

MET isn’t just new; it’s nearly a century in the making.

  • Since 1925, Saint-Hubert Airport has been central to Canada’s aviation history, evolving from early airfield to military base and training hub.
  • 2023 marked its renaming to Montréal Metropolitan Airport, signaling its evolution into a modern commercial airport.
  • Today, MET is guided by a clear vision: connect Greater Montreal efficiently with the rest of Canada, offering a future-focused, passenger-centric experience.

Looking Ahead

Montreal-based travellers now have a reason to rethink domestic air travel. MET’s modern facilities, strategic location, and Porter’s expanded route network are set to make flying easier, faster, and more enjoyable.

Whether you’re heading to Toronto, Vancouver, Halifax, or any of the 12 destinations, MET represents a new hub of opportunity.
