Track Your Air Canada Aeroplan Status in 2026 with This Free Spreadsheet!

If you are aiming to earn or maintain Air Canada Aeroplan Elite status, there is an important change you need to know about this year. The way you earn status has shifted from traditional miles or segments to something new called Status Qualifying Credits (SQCs).

Based on my calculations, you will need to spend at least $6,250 on Air Canada flights to reach the base level of status 25K. But tracking your progress does not have to be complicated.

What Changed on January 1, 2026

Source: Aeroplan

As of January 1, 2026, Aeroplan redesigned how members earn points and qualify for Elite status. Instead of tracking distance flown and spend separately, Status Qualifying Credits (SQC) are now the single metric that determines your Elite status, core benefits, and Milestone rewards.

Here are the key points of the change:

1. SQCs are accumulated within a calendar year and are used to qualify for Aeroplan Elite Status. They unlock core benefits such as complimentary checked bags, priority boarding, and lounge access depending on your status.

2. SQCs are not redeemable or exchangeable. They are strictly a status tracking metric.

3. Elite Status is earned by reaching SQC thresholds. For example, 25,000 SQCs earns 25K status, 35,000 SQCs earns 35K status, and so on.

4. Milestone Benefits can be unlocked for every 10,000 SQCs accumulated throughout the year. These can include bonus eUpgrade credits, additional points, and one-time lounge guest passes.

5. Ways to earn SQCs include flying with Air Canada and Star Alliance member airlines, spending on select Aeroplan credit cards, and using travel or everyday partners.

For flights, SQCs are earned based on the base fare and carrier surcharges, excluding taxes, fees, and third-party charges. Aeroplan Elite Members also earn bonus points on eligible Air Canada flights depending on their status, which can help boost your overall rewards.

Introducing a Free Aeroplan Status Tracker

To make life easier, I created a free Google spreadsheet that helps you track exactly how much you need to spend to hit each Aeroplan Elite status tier. Here is how it works:

  1. Enter your flight details – Input your flight costs and fare class, and the sheet will estimate how many SQCs you will earn from each flight.
  2. Track credit card spend – If you hold an Aeroplan credit card, you can enter your spending here. Each $5,000 spent on a premium Aeroplan card earns 1,000 SQCs, while every $20,000 spent on a core card earns the same.
  3. Adjust SQC estimations – Remember, SQCs are calculated on the base fare and carrier surcharges only. The spreadsheet estimates that 80 percent of your total payment counts toward SQCs, but you can change this to match your exact earnings.
  4. See your progress – The sheet automatically totals your SQCs from flights and credit card spend, showing how much more you need to reach each status tier.

How to Get Your Copy

It is completely free and requires just a Google account. Simply:

  1. Click here to access the page with the button to download. It’s titled “Aeroplan Status Sheet.”
  2. Click the button to open the spreadsheet.
  3. When prompted, make your own copy to start tracking your progress.

This tool takes the guesswork out of earning Aeroplan status and makes it easy to see where you stand and plan your travel spending strategically.

Happy tracking!
